Well as I'm sure everyone is aware, the UK is having a strange phenomenon happen, namely a heatwave. Now many people will be loving the change in weather and taking every opportunity they can to touch up on their Tan. The same cant be said for many axolotl owners as we've been inundated with panicked owners asking how they can cool down their axolotl tanks. Well here we will cover just that!
The ideal tank temperature for axolotls is 16-18 degrees which is achievable quite easily when the big yellow ball of fire isn't beaming down from the sky. It is important to not allow you're temperature to rise above 20 degrees as this is when illness can and does occur, the main one that is temperature based is fungus, and obviously we don't want that. So how do you stop your axolotl tanks getting to hot?

The easiest way to keep your tanks at the perfect temperature is to invest in an aquarium chiller. We say invest because they are pretty pricey but you'll never have to worry about your temperature again
Aquarium fans , these will bring the temperature down a couple of degrees but buy the correct amount for your tank. 1 fan will make no difference to a

4ft tank.
Frozen water bottles. Super easy and effective. Rotate through the day to keep the water cool.

Small water changes. If your really struggling to get the temperature down do a 10-15% water change. This along with one or more of the options above should get your levels where they need to be.
As always, any questions please feel free to message us and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
